SO, I posted about the first song from the “April” EP the other day. It’s time for the second.

This song is called “Dream”. I wrote it when I was a younger person dating another person and as convinced I would end up married to that person. But, that’s not usually how these things work, is it? So, this is a song acknowledging how silly it can be to have long term thoughts about things that don’t last.

Super super thank you to the one and only Billy Libby for tracking this for me in literally the shortest amount of time ever and for his beautiful guitar playing as heard on this track!

“Dream”

There’s a house down the street that looks just like a palace to me,
And I wanna live with you in a house like that, someday.
And there’s a river that runs right into the back yard,
The sun hits the water just so that the light plays off of the street.

But it’s just a dream that I like to dream, sometimes
So I’ll tuck it away in a corner of my mind,
‘cause I know I’m young and dumb
And having too much fun,
But it’s just a dream, and sometimes
dreaming just seems right.

There’s a rowboat down the road by the docks that’s unloved and old,
And I want to fix it up and row it to you, someday.
I would paint it up all blue, hell,
I’d paint the oars and inside too,
Get my compass out and follow its’ needle northeast.

But it’s just a dream that I like to dream, sometimes
So I’ll tuck it away in a corner of my mind
‘cause I know I’m young and dumb
And having too much fun
But it’s just a dream
And sometimes dreaming just seems right.
Yeah, I know, I’m young and dumb
And having too much fun,
but it’s just a dream,
And sometimes dreaming just seems right.

SO. The “April” EP went up a few days ago. Just secretly. I’m gonna promote it more when it comes out on iTunes, it’s taking awhile to process on the iTunes store. But right now it’s on TopSpin only and so are all the rest of the monthly releases. Click that ridiculously long link to check it out.

ANYWAY. This song is called “Here’s to Goodbye”. I wrote it on a session in London. Originally I was going to shop it to another artist but I liked it a lot so I decided to keep it for myself. Thanks to Alex Smith who produced the song, and Billy Libby who got this mixed and mastered.

“Here’s to Goodbye”

I can hear the voices from under your door.
Quiet talk and laughter, then nothing more.
And on Madison street, people rushing past me
while I’m waiting on the lawn.
I count the minutes I wait in the same damn place
watching all the shadows fall.

Couldn’t see me.
Did you see me?

Kill the lights ‘cause it’s all over.
Lock me out,
don’t even wonder,
darling I’m fine.
Happy if you really love her.
See it when you hold her.
You said “Never say die,”
Well, here’s to goodbye.

Retracing paces, places, all those days that we spent.
Revisit all the bars and building where we once met.
And on a hotel bed, you held me and said
inside I had a light.
Now there’s a vacant space where you used to lay
at the end of every night.

Didn’t mean it.
Did you mean it?

Kill the lights ‘cause it’s all over.
Lock me out,
don’t even wonder,
darling, I’m fine.
Happy if you really love her.
See it when you hold her.
You said “Never say die,”
Well, here’s to goodbye.

I really need to get out of here before I lose it. I just want to leave, but its not time yet. Don’t know how much longer I can hold myself back.
